ANNE-MARIE SCHJETLEIN

Author and nurse, known for her psychological thrillers set in hospital environments. She debuted in 2014 with Döden kvittar det lika and has since published several books in the popular Tylösand series.

Her latest book, Skytten, marks the beginning of a new series about nurse Regina Starck, with Sveasjukhuset in Stockholm serving as the dramatic focal point.

THE SVEASJUKHUSET SERIES

The entrance hall of Sveasjukhuset is bustling with people as nurse Regina Starck comes down to buy lunch. A perfectly ordinary day, until the inferno suddenly erupts.

A young man raises an automatic weapon, and in the next second, bullets tear through the crowd. Innocent victims collapse to the floor. Just a few meters away from Regina, the life drains from a teenage girl as Regina locks eyes with the shooter. He turns and flees down a corridor.

Two days later, she finds herself face-to-face with the shooter once again. During his escape, he was shot by the police and is now hospitalized. In shock, Regina is confronted with the greatest dilemma of her life. How can she care for a murderer?

When Regina is called in for a witness interview, she stumbles upon something unexpected — a possible link to the mystery that haunts her: the disappearance of her brother Victor a year and a half ago.

Skytten is the first book in Anne-Marie Schjetlein’s new thriller series, Sveasjukhuset. Anne-Marie is also the author of the Tylösand series, which has sold over 100,000 copies.

THE TYLÖSAND SERIES

Psychological suspense in the hospital corridors of Halmstad.

Anne-Marie Schjetlein skillfully weaves together the everyday puzzle of life and close family relationships with sudden death and dark secrets in the series about surgeon Andreas at the hospital in Halmstad. It’s a thriller series that is both relatable and deeply unsettling.

MORE ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Anne-Marie Schjetlein debuted in 2014 with Döden kvittar det lika. Since then, six books in the series have been published by Bokfabriken. Throughout her adult life, she has worked in healthcare. A trained nurse with a master’s degree in nursing, she has primarily specialized in surgical care.

Alongside her writing, she works part-time as an educational leader, focusing on competency development in healthcare. It is no coincidence that the plots of her romantic suspense novels are set in hospital environments. Life in a hospital is filled with sorrow, suffering, pain, and death but also joy, hope, relief, and life. In an instant, the pendulum can swing from euphoria to catastrophe. According to Schjetlein, this makes hospitals a highly suitable backdrop for suspense novels.

The themes of childhood upbringing and the child’s perspective also play an important role in her storytelling.

”Children suffer today in ways they shouldn’t have to. This is something we cannot ignore; it cannot be emphasized enough. I do not believe in the concept of adults—only small and large children in lost bodies. How does a broken childhood shape a person’s life? Can it foster hatred and a desire for revenge? And what might happen then?

Her books also frequently explore family secrets and the unsettling realization that we do not always truly know the people closest to us.
